Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)

The aim of the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) course is to train PPL licence holders to a commercial standard, allowing the holder to be remunerated for flying. The course is 25 hours, however, if you are a holder of an Instrument Rating (IR) then the course can be reduced by 10 hours.

There is a minimum requirement of five hours within the course that needs to be conducted on complex aircraft (variable pitch propeller and retractable undercarriage). The skills test also has to be conducted on a complex aircraft. The following are the various options you can choose from, depending on if you hold an IR and what aircraft you would like to complete your course on.

The following is a list of the items needed in order to complete the Commercial Pilot Licence:

The following requirements will need to be met prior to the commencement of training:

You must hold the following:

- A PPL licence (UK or ICAO)
- A Night rating
- A Class 1 UK Medical

You must have completed:

- 200 hours total flying time prior to the skills test, 100 of which must be pilot-in-command (PIC)
- 20 hours cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command
- The cross-country flight time must include a qualifying 540 km (300nm) cross-country flight (with landings at two separate aerodromes)
- The ATPL or CPL exams.

The minimum age for the issue of a CPL licence is 18 years.

OPTION 1 - For those who have already completed the Instrument Rating (IR):

- 15 hours total flying time (10 hours in a single-engine aircraft and 5 hours in a complex aircraft.)
- 1 x Flight Test with a CAA Examiner

OPTION 2 - For those who have NOT completed the Instrument Rating (IR):

- 25 hours flying time (20 hours in a single-engine aircraft and 5 hours in a complex aircraft.)
- 1 x Flight Test with a CAA Examiner

Course Theory Exams:

The ATPL or CPL exams must be completed prior to starting the CPL course.
The CPL skills test must be completed within 36 months of the passing your last theory exam.
