Multi-Engine Competency-based Instrument Rating (MECBIR)

The aim of the competency-based instrument rating (MECBIR) course is to train PPL or CPL holders for the IR(A), taking into account prior instrument flight instruction and experience, which will be assessed during the pre-entry flight test.

Course pre-requisites:

- Valid MEP Rating
- Valid Medical

Course Theory Exams:

- ATPL or IR theory exams for the authority you will be applying to, either EASA or UK CAA.
- The instrument flight instruction and the IR(A) skill test must be completed within 36 months of the pass of the theory exams.

Basic Course Requirements:

-35 hours for CPL holders or 45 hours without CPL Both options include 15hours MEIR training and the remaining hours are done on a simulator (FNPT2)
- One Practical Flight Test

Extra costs:

- IR Test fee
- Aircraft hire for the test.
- Approach fees to other aerodromes.
