MULTI ENGINE PISTON RATING (MEP)

Multi Engine Piston Rating (MEP)

The Multi-engine Piston Rating (MEP) extends the privileges of your Private Pilot Licence or Commercial Licence to allow you to fly twin-engine aircraft.

Flying Multi-Engine Piston Aircraft is a massive step up from the Single Engine planes you’ve flown so far. It will allow you to undertake flights that provide the additional safety of having two engines instead of just the one! If you intend to go into a commercial flying career, the MEP Rating is a must! The rating is valid for 1 year and can be revalidated via a proficiency check with an examiner.

Course pre-requisites: Hold at least a PPL(A) and have at least 70 hours as Pilot-in-Command since issue of the licence.

Course Length: 6 Hours of which at least 3.5 will be learning how to safely operate the aircraft with only 1 engine.

Course Theory Exam: 1 Multiple-choice exam on Multi Engine operations. The pass mark for the exam is 75%. There will be 7 hours ground school for this course.

Course Skills Test: A flight of at least 1 hour consisting of multi engine procedures as well as single engine operations in a multi engine aircraft.
